Eyewash and Safety Shower ITM (IIAR 6, Part 14)
ANSI/IIAR 6-2019 Table 12.5 summarizes the minimum ITM requirements for eyewash and safety showers. We’ve written about tests of eyewash and safety showers in the past, and thankfully IIAR 6 does not introduce any new ITM tasks, but instead repeats the requirements which were previously published in ANSI/ISEA Z358.1-2014.
In lieu of copying Table 12.5 in its entirety, I’ll invite you to review the blog that we wrote last year. The primary takeaway is a recognition that eyewash and safety showers must now be included in the ITM program for ammonia refrigeration systems. Therefore, when IIAR 6 is adopted by OSHA or EPA, failure to include eyewash and safety showers serving an ammonia refrigeration system in an MI program may result in citations.
