Georgia Firm Indicted in Woman’s Ammonia Death – Federal officials have charged a Georgia transportation company in a 2009 ammonia leak that killed a South Carolina woman. According to court documents filed this week, a federal grand jury returned an indictment against Werner Transportation Services Inc. for alleged violations of the Clean Air Act. The wrong type of hose was used as 7,000 pounds of ammonia gas were being transferred to a Werner truck at a Tanner Industries distribution facility […keep reading]

Ammonia Drained Out of Car After Car Overturns On Track – The main train track was in working condition Monday after nine cars overturned on the track Saturday, according to Bladen Emergency Services. Nine of more than 100 cars overturned Saturday, and one of them carried ammonia. Copper Theft Causes Ice Mountain Ammonia Leak – A man attempting to steal copper out of Ice Mountain Arena, Jan., 30, ended up breaking pipes housing the hazardous material ammonia. The Burton Fire Department received a call by Burton Police at 9:12 p.m. asking for a ladder because an officer had seen a man on the roof top of the building. Deputy Chief Ken Gould said it took police and fire officials about 45 minutes to realize there had been a anhydrous ammonia leak. Long Beach Officials Protect River After Ammonia Leak – Residents near Daisy Avenue and Anaheim Street were told to stay indoors early Saturday after an ammonia spill that threatened the Los Angeles River. Fire officials immediately protected a storm drain leading to river. No serious contamination or injuries were reported. The spill was reported at 4:56 a.m. by a passerby who called about a strong odor, said Capt.
